The definition of sustainable goals and the determination of strategies and success factors are the central elements of a successful regional policy. This was recognized early on in Wetzlar, and in coordination with all economic players, a set of guiding principles for the economic perspectives was compiled. At the same time, coordinating and bringing together the many aspects of a successful regional development takes centre stage.

Apart from keeping modern industrial estates available this requires a technology policy which is coordinated with the economic structure. This also includes the promotion of innovative themes and ideas in the labour, business and tourism sectors and their realisation. And it is also about a campaign for self-employment for the settlement of new companies and the goal-oriented regulation of municipal investments.

In connection with this, the modernisation of the municipal administration plays an important role. This process has long been in full force in Wetzlar. The city government regards itself as service provider for its clients and customers. Not only the official channels, but thanks to a modern process management, even the licensing procedures themselves are short. The Economics Department and the Business Development Agency also help quickly and unbureaucratically in networking with other companies or in the procurement of support programmes. These are also important factors in a successful regional policy for the City of Wetzlar.
